…and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope…

Those were, without a doubt, my favorite words of prayer in the Mass. Each week I would wait for these blessed words from the priest and my soul would fill with calm and peace.

The wording of the Mass has recently changed, but I still find myself praying these words almost every day. Especially recently as I am being terrorized by a nameless, faceless dread which wakes me in the middle of night sick with fear of something.  What is it you ask? What is it that is haunting me? The silly thing is that I truly don’t know! I’ve attempted to sit and sort and sift through which of my daily stressors (of which my family has many right now) are causing this, but not one produced this all encompassing sensation which makes my stomach hurt, my heart ache, and hands tremble.

So, in the darkness, this prayer is my comfort and my savior….

Deliver us, Lord, from every evil, and grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
